shooting with my Elph

After shooting with tinycams for a week or two, I feel spoiled by my Canon Powershot S100 (Digital Elph). I put in a 128MB card, set the camera to 640×480, and I can store 700-something pix on a card. Not losing the pictures when the battery dies means I can shoot all week without [...]

Moving Forward

I’ve re-formatted my laptop, have Linux, Gnome, OpenOffice, Evolution, and Mozilla 1.1 running on it - it’s really nice. I’m looking forward to having a desktop instance of Linux running - most of my linux boxes have been headless boxes running without X (or a monitor, or a keyboard, or a mouse…) in a [...]

r** h**

Testing blogger and Mozilla. 1.1 is out, and everything looks mostly good, except the edit window in blogger is tiny.

Great grafitti, old warehouses, and long-closed salty looking bars that were longshoreman’s hangouts when San Francisco had a shipping industry to speak of. Yahoo’s groups are a nice alternative. There are small-ish communities [...]

I very somberly packed away my Canon AE-1 Program — I’ve got my Rebel 2000, and although I still like the feel of a semi-manual camera, I think the new AF camera is the way to go. 30 second max exposures, shutter and aperture priority, a fast 50/1.8 lens, a nice 28-105 lens for [...]

I read the Open Letter to America linked from Wil Wheaton’s site, and it hit home. it’s definitely a sobering thought, but it begs the question — OK, so what should we do?
How do you get off of oil dependence when the government is powered by money — specifically oil money? Where’s the motivation [...]
