I just got back from a photo jaunt - got up at 6:00am after a dinner party (Red wine! ouch!) and packed up my cameras, 3 rolls of Portra 400NC, 3 rolls of Lucky Super 100, and hit the road. Stopped in Crockett and Port Costa in the morning - cold, blustery, and a little foggy. It’s amazing that you can drive 20 minutes in the bay area and find sleepy little waterway towns. Then, over the Carquinez bridge to Cordelia, Fairfield, and Vacaville, looking for old dilapidated buildings.
I took a tour of a long-time friend of mine’s old stomping grounds in Fairfield, to places I’d been about 10 years ago. A little coffeeshop I remembered is now a dry cleaners (with a Starbuck’s across the mall - mumble…) but the Rendezvous bar has a timeless quality about it, as do most good dive bars. The clientele doesn’t look like it’s changed, either…
Went up to Vacaville, found a quaint little breakfast spot in downtown, had some breakfast and coffee. The locals wondered who this guy with a notepad and several cameras was. Headed back after filling myself with several watery refills of diner coffee, and stopped in Crockett again on the way back for some more favorable light, and got some interesting shots of a old landing craft and rickety docks near the base of the new to-be completed Carquinez bridge Mk. III.
Pix in a couple of days.
