In case you haven’t heard, blogger got hacked on Friday, 25 October. You’d better change your FTP password just to be safe. Actually, changing your passwords occasionally is good practice - I used the excuse to change a slew of home passwords I’ve been using for some time. The problem is that most ISPs aren’t savvy to encrypting passwords - POP3 and FTP are two widely supported protocols that send your username and password in cleartext across the net every time you use them. I’ve seen very few ISPs that support SSL-enabled POP3 or SCP, which perform the same functions as their cleartext counterparts, but encrypt both username/password and data.
