Be Yourself

Art is what you make it.

I’ve caught a couple of message threads on the ‘net where people were comparing theirs and others street photography. People inevitably compared their own photos to the works of some of the greats - not favorably.

I wish everyone could appreciate their photographs for the beauty and the art that it is. There were only one Winogrand, one Doisneau and one Bresson. There are a lot more of you making art as you see it, and it’s no less valid because it doesn’t have a name attached to it, or it wasn’t shot with a Wetzlar-era Leica.

When I see myself taking my photography too seriously, or worrying too much about photo equipment, I know it’s time to sit back, watch Pecker again and go shooting with a toy camera, for the enjoyment of it.
