Yesterday’s run…

3.25 miles in 32:07. I just didn’t have it in me for my usual 2 laps. Part of my problem with running lately has been a weight gain - I’ve some weight since this summer when I was running 5x/week, and I’m feeling the effects when I run. It’s depressing to be running and think about how I ran better a few months back.

It’s all OK, though - my dogs need a good walk today, I’ll take them out for an hour or so. If I got a full run in, I wouldn’t be up for a walk today. I should take solace in the fact that I feel great today - when I started running, yesterday’s “half-run” was my whole run, and I’d be sore for a day or two afterwards. I couldn’t even tell this morning that I’d gone running!

I’ve been vegetarian before, mostly for economic reasons. The concept of eating meat has never bothered me, and I’ve never disassociated those stryofoam and cling-wrap covered packages in the butcher section from the animals they used to be. Lately, though, I’ve been bothered by some of the things I see regarding meat farms - the quality of life for these poor animals looks pretty sad. I figure all that I can do is to vote with my dollars and continue to buy meat that’s raised in an environment I approve of. It’s more expensive, but worth it; there is a huge difference in Niman Ranch pork and other brands I’ve tried. Now, if I can find a bird-friendly chicken farm, I’ll be set.

So, last night, my wife went out to celebrate her mom’s birthday with her, and I made some steamed rice, and stir-fried some green beans and onion with tofu and a sauce made of hoisin sauce, a dash of honey, light soy, sesame oil and chili sauce. Yum!
