Long day…
Not much to post; I’ve been working on a deadline to get a call center I run up and running on VOIP. We have a remote call center that connects over VOIP; we want the phones to connect locally in case of an outage at the main site.
IMO, the biggest obstacle to VOIP is the knowledge gap. There are data people, there are voice people, there aren’t a lot of people who know both. I’m one of the few, but I’m not Nortel certified, and this isn’t my primary responsibility.
I’m still trying to find a solution for my planning/task management needs. Outlook plus a Palm makes a great way to keep a large amount of data at hand; between the Palm find function and LookOut for Outlook I have the ability to quickly scan my data repository.
I’m still enamored with pen and paper; I started using a Hipster PDA after a friend of mine and I spent 3 minutes trying to get two palms to sync in order to send a business card. The next day, I wrote my email
address and telephone number on a blank card and handed it to the person and saved myself the hassle.
I use a wirebound legal size notepad at work. I like having enough room to write up a network diagram or mind map, and I tend to fill in the right margin spaces with notes if I need to go back to something I’ve written down.
Although smaller notebooks are starting to feel a little cramped, I’ve always liked the feel of a Moleskine notebook. One side of me wants to carry a digital camera and Palm PDA everywhere, the other wants a bag with a Moleskine, a Fisher space pen and a Canonet loaded with black and white film. Some day I’ll figure out how to pull it all together.
