This weekend has been all about the fixin’.

I fixed the lights in my office. The office has 4 recessed spots and a halogen overhead light. They’ve been broken since 2001, and I was too busy consulting to bother with it. Turns out all it took was a new dimmer switch. $30. Ouch!

Now, instead of bouncing a halogen desk lamp off of one wall, I have light coming from everywhere!

I got a new battery for the Volvo. We left a light on and after getting a jump start it wouldn’t hold a decent charge.

I replaced the ballast in the overhead lamp in the kitchen. Replacing it turned out to be a comedy of errors that took 2 drills and 3 weeks.

The new BBS box is formatting as I type this. 1.5ghz P4, 768 MB RAM, 80 Gb ATA-133 drive.

I reloaded the BBS mailer config and rejoined Fidonet. I’m enamored with weird tech, and Fidonet is chock full of it. Store-and-forward switched packet networks with encryption, resilient node fabric, and politics, circa DOS!
